This week we are switching it up a bit and adding a new addition to our Throwback Thursday segment; Inspirational Celebrity Throwbacks. What better way to kick off this new addition by featuring a woman who started with a small idea, which grew into an empire, making her one of the most successful female entrepreneurs in the country:
Born on November 4, 1970, Bethenny experienced divorce, fighting, eating disorders, substance abuse and what she describes as "destruction" as a child. Her unstable upbringing caused her own self-confidence struggles as she grew into a young adult. Bethenny openly admits that she "hated herself" and that hatred turned into an unhealthy relationship with food, which quickly changed after she figured out the direction she wanted her life to go.
After graduating from NYU with a degree in communications and psychology she decided to try her luck in LA as an actress. With her career going no where fast she then headed back to her hometown of NYC, and follow her other passion, healthy cooking. She graduated from the Natural Gourmet Institute, which specialized in healthy-food choices and recipes.
Bethenny Bakes, a cookie company, which catered to the NYC heath conscious, was her first business venture after graduating. What has taken Bethenny as far as she is now is her unbreakable belief that she is the best at what she is doing. "I would be the next Mrs. Fields, the next Famous Amos, but the healthy version," she writes in her book, A Place of Yes. The success of this first business took her career soaring. In 2008 she was asked to be on the show The Apprentice: Martha Stewart, where she went very far. This exposure led to her landing a spot on Bravo's hit reality TV show, The Real Housewives of New York.
Being a true entrepreneur, Bethenny used this show as an opportunity to build her business. This is where the birth of her multi-million dollar empire was born. Skinny Girl, a food and lifestyle brand catered to healthy living, launched in 2009 followed by her New York Times Best Seller, Naturally Thin: Unleash Your Skinnygirl and Free Yourself from a Lifetime of Dieting. The success of this book led to what she is currently the most famous for, her signature drink, the Skinny Girl Margarita.
Just as everything was coming together in Bethenny's life she met the last piece to her puzzle, her now husband, Jason Hoppy. Bethenny was married on March 28th and a couple months later on May 8th, baby Bryn Casey Hoppy was born. We all got to experience her joy in a Bravo's RH of NY spin off show Bethenny Getting Married & Bethenny Ever After.
In 2011, right after her appearance on Skating with the Stars, she made a business deal of a lifetime. She sold her Skinnygirl cocktail brand to Fortune Brands' Beam Global (aka Jim Beam) for an estimated $100 million dollars. Talk about taking a small idea and turning it into a world-wide phenomenon.
And just when you think Bethenny has it all, she just began hosting her own talk-show, Bethenny which on Fox.
Bethenny Frankel is a woman who can do it all and though she was dealt a rough card as a child she used her struggles as fuel to become the successful, driven woman she is today. A true inspiration!
